Introduction to the NAOF
The National Audit Office of Finland (NAOF) is Finland’s independent national Supreme Audit Institution. Its audits and oversight cover not only central government finances as a whole but partly also other aspects of general government finances.

Strategy
The strategic purpose of the National Audit Office is to ensure sustainable management of public finances and an efficient and transparent central government. This requires that the NAOF itself acts efficiently and transparently and that it also utilises digitalisation and new technologies. The National Audit Office’s strategy has been drawn up for 2024–2030.

The NAOF plans and monitors its activities and finances in compliance with the common guidelines of the central government.

Organisation and management
The National Audit Office of Finland (NAOF) acts as an independent authority in affiliation with Parliament. The NAOF employs approximately 150 people in the Audit Unit, the Monitoring and Oversight Unit and the Shared Services Unit.

The Advisory Board of the National Audit Office serves as a forum for dialogue between the NAOF and its key stakeholders.

History
The National Audit Office and its predecessors have audited central government finances and the state’s financial management for centuries. While the NAOF’s tasks have expanded in step with growing societal and central government needs, its basic duty has remained the same.
