Steering of contract fire brigade activities

Contract-based rescue services play a key part in Finnish rescue services. The objective of the audit is to establish if the steering of contract fire brigades by the Ministry of the Interior and wellbeing services counties has been adequate and appropriate in terms of carrying out and developing the activities. In the budget proposal for 2025, the total costs of rescue services maintained by the wellbeing services counties were approx. EUR 580 million. The costs of contract fire brigades and other contract staff have been estimated to account for around one fifth of the total costs of rescue services.
